Community Day | The Art of Paper

The Asheville Art Museum invites you to visit for free on Saturday, October 10 between 11am–5pm! Come celebrate the exhibition The Art of Paper with an afternoon of creativity and community engagement—featuring live music, art activities, exhibition tours, and more.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

11am–5pm: Free admission to the Museum, including the featured exhibition, The Art of Paper.

11:30am–3:30pm: Live piano in the Windgate Foundation Atrium with Willie Sime.

Noon, 1pm, and 2pm: The Art of Paper 30-minute Express Tours.

12:30pm, 1:30pm, and 2:30pm: Warp, Weft, and the Grid, 30-minute Express Tours.

1-4pm: Paperweaving in the Studio – Starting with strips of handmade paper crafted from kudzu vines, participants will create a small weaving inspired by traditional overshot patterns, a popular weave structure used to make coverlets and bed coverings. We will turn our weavings into wearable buttons that highlight the beauty of these two art forms, hand weaving and papermaking. Led by artist Alyssa Sacora of The Patchwork Underground, this drop in experience will expose museum guests to new ways of thinking about materials and craft and provide a hands-on learning experience. Beginners are welcome and encouraged.

2–2:15pm, 3:15–3:30pm: Asheville School student dance performance in Explore Asheville Exhibition Hall (level 3), featuring Warp, Weft, and the Grid.

2:30–3pm: Asheville School student dance and poetry performances in The Art of Paper.

Preregister—let us know you’re coming!
