At night, the forest comes to life, and far up above, the infinite cosmos
dances. Experience the wonders of the night sky during an unforgettable evening of stargazing
at the Cradle of Forestry in America.
Join FIND Outdoors on Friday, September 11th and Friday, November 6th to discover
astronomical astonishment, as the Cradle of Forestry partners with AstroBrevard, The Asheville
Astronomy Club, and the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute to discover the hidden
mysteries of Western North Carolina’s dark sky.
Participants will discover the spectacle of the cosmos as expert astronomers interpret and
identify the constellations and planets, share stories about the stars, and provide opportunities
to observe celestial objects through high-powered telescopes. Whether you're an experienced
stargazer or simply curious about the universe, this interactive program offers a unique chance
to explore the beauty of deep space.
Tickets are $30 for adults, $15 for youth ages 4–15, and free for children ages 3 and
under. All proceeds from the event go directly to support FIND Outdoors' non-profit mission,
the continued stewardship of the Cradle of Forestry, and further educational programs.
Gates open at 8:00 PM; the program takes place from 8:30 PM – 10:00 PM and begins with
an introduction from our partners, who will brief guests on the wonders of the night sky. Guests
will then be invited to look through telescopes calibrated to specific points of interest and
activity up above.

The Cradle of Forestry is located four miles south of Blue Ridge Parkway Milepost 412 on
Highway 276 in the Pisgah National Forest and six miles north of Looking Glass Falls. The
Cradle of Forestry is the birthplace of modern forestry in America. Dr. Carl Alwin Schenck,
forester for George Vanderbilt’s Biltmore Estate from 1895 to 1909, founded America’s first
forestry school in 1898 and used the present Cradle of Forestry area as its summer campus.
This land was the nucleus of today’s Pisgah National Forest, established in 1916.
