We hope you can join us (October 7, 14, 21, and 28) for a four-week lecture series on the life and work of Meredith alumna, Phyllis Trible, ’54. Few scholars have altered the landscape of biblical interpretation as decisively as Phyllis, whose pioneering work at the intersection of biblical studies, theology, literary criticism, and feminist hermeneutics challenged both the assumptions of traditional exegesis and the emerging contours of feminist biblical scholarship. Over the course of these four lectures, we will explore Trible’s distinctive interpretive method, her formative contributions to feminist biblical criticism, her theological engagement with the language and imagery of Scripture, and the enduring significance and continuing reactions to her work, asking finally how her legacy has transformed not only the interpretation of particular biblical texts but our understanding of what responsible biblical interpretation itself requires.
