After a very successful one-day food drive last year, the Flat Rock Village Council will again sponsor this community event. This year we’re expanding to a week and providing several drop-off locations in the Village. We’ll be collecting non-perishable food items from Saturday, November 14, through Saturday, November 21, with all items to be donated to Interfaith Assistance Ministry (IAM) and The Storehouse.

“What makes our community so special is how people show up for one another,” Council Member Emily Whitmire noted. “Following the success of last year’s food drive, turning this into a week-long event lets us reach even more families across the county while encouraging everyone to drop by the local businesses hosting as drop-off location sites.”

In addition to the drop-off locations listed below, there will be a drive-thru donation drop on Saturday, November 21, at The Park at Flat Rock (55 Highland Golf Drive) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Donation locations throughout the Village include:

Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue (both stations)

Flat Rock Cinema

Flat Rock Village Hall

Hubba Hubba Smokehouse

Sharewell Coffee

The Gallery at Flat Rock

The Park at Flat Rock

IAM (iam-hc.org) offers help to Henderson County residents in crisis with food, clothing, heat, utilities, rent, medications, school supplies, and other basic needs. As an independent nonprofit, IAM is often able to provide help to individuals who do not meet the eligibility requirements of other organizations. Founded in 1984 by local churches and the synagogue, IAM is funded by local congregations, civic groups, businesses, generous individuals, and grants. IAM partners with Duke Energy to administer Share the Warmth funds and by their local Emergency Food & Shelter Board to administer EFSP funds.

The Storehouse (storehouseonline.org) is a Christ-centered community ministry easing hunger in Henderson County by serving people based on need, promoting dignity, clarity, and trust. They work to provide food and life’s basic necessities to people in a welcoming, respectful environment. Assistance is available to any resident of Henderson County who is currently facing food insecurity or financial hardship. Founded in 2000, The Storehouse began with a simple but profound vision: no one in our community should go hungry. What started as a small pantry effort has grown over the past two decades into a vital resource serving thousands of families annually.
